Will you take my insurance?
No. In order to provide the type of care that we are offering, we are stepping out of all insurance, including Medicare, in order to make you and your care our priority. We are embracing a direct-pay, fee-for-service practice model. Full payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash, check, VISA, and MasterCard. We can provide you with a Superbill that you can file with your insurer.
How about for lab work?
All lab work will be billed separately through your insurance, directly by the lab facility. All questions regarding your insurance coverage and reimbursement should be directed to your insurance company or benefits manager.
Can I use my HSA/FSA?
Yes. We accept HSA and FSA funds. We can provide you with an invoice for the insurer at the end of your appointment.
Can I submit to insurance on my own?
Upon request, we will provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Reimbursement is at the sole discretion of your insurance provider. All questions regarding your insurance coverage and reimbursement should be directed to your insurance company or benefits manager.
What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine looks at the many layers of one’s health. The goal is to uncover the source of problems by evaluating such things as current lifestyle, nutrition, past trauma and how you feel overall. We offer specialized lab testing and because of our individualized approach, you can expect appointments to last longer, so you can be heard and not rushed.
How does functional medicine pair with skin health?
The skin is a window to our health. When something is going awry on the outside, we know that there is inflammation somewhere inside. Functional medicine looks for the root cause of the illness. We treat symptoms and try to make you more comfortable while simultaneously looking for the cause of the problem.
What is the difference between functional and conventional dermatology?
While functional medicine looks for the source of a problem to eliminate symptoms, conventional dermatology treats symptoms, acting like a band aid for temporary relief. At the same time, conventional dermatology doesn’t look for the source of a problem. Functional dermatology results in fewer side effects and improves overall health rather than just endlessly managing symptoms.
Will you provide conventional skin care and health care?
Yes. We offer conventional care, while integrating with functional medicine where appropriate and to your comfort level.
Does functional medicine cost more than conventional medicine?
There is no black/white, yes/no answer to this question. It depends on how you look at it. Out-of-pocket costs may be more depending on what you are used to with your current insurance plan and deductible; however, you are trading this cost for longer appointment times so we can truly connect with you and get to the heart of your concerns. This places you in control, not the insurance company. Your health is a great investment. In this way, cutting insurance out of the equation works to break the typical cycle of quick appointments and symptom management.
What does the appointment cost include?
The appointment cost is paid up front and covers an initial comprehensive exam (both a focused physical exam and review of your nutrition, lifestyle, major concerns and more), as well as everything that happens behind the scenes (reviewing paperwork, formulating a plan, reviewing labs, supplements and ordering tests).
Will you provide skin cancer screening?
Yes. We will perform thorough and complete skin exams and skin cancer screening.
Will you perform biopsies or surgery?
Yes, we do skin biopsies. A skin biopsy is a procedure that removes a small sample of skin for testing. The skin sample is sent to a dermatopathologist who will look at it under a microscope to check for skin cancer or to get a diagnosis for another skin condition.
We do not perform any skin surgeries in the office, but we do work in close collaboration with excellent local dermatologic practitioners and dermatologic and plastic surgeons to align surgical care for our patients.
Will you treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, warts, and other common skin conditions?
Yes. We treat all types of skin disease. We do so by combining conventional therapies (like topical treatments) with integrative approaches, such as dietary modifications, nutritional supplements, and complementary treatment modalities.
Will I see a nurse or a doctor?
All care is provided by board-certified nurse practitioner, Amy Black. Nurse practitioners (NPs) can diagnose and treat illness, prescribe medications and make referrals as needed. NPs are specialists in educating patients on disease and illness and will take time with you explaining your conditions and talking through any concerns you have.
Do you have telemedicine?
Yes, we can do telemedicine visits for most concerns. New patients with rashes or spots of concern should make an appointment to be seen in the office. Most follow-up visits can be seen via telemedicine. If we have a concern, we will bring you into the office for a visit.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. At this time, Radiance is accepting new patients. Please schedule an appointment online.
